The overall strategic vision for the School is:
By 2015 the Leeds School of Healthcare will be established as an internationally recognised centre of excellence in applied health and social care research, education and innovation. We will lead advances in learning and teaching and practice which will drive positive change in local, national and international health economies.
The Strategic Aims
The overarching strategic aims of the School include:
- To deliver a portfolio of high quality research led/informed health and social care education underpinned by the integration of research, Learning and Teaching (L&T), practice & Enterprise and Knowledge Transfer (EKT)
- To inspire students to develop their full potential through high quality learning and teaching, research and practice activities
- To undertake and publish world-class research in applied health and social care
- To contribute positively to the local health and social care community
The School of Healthcare takes pride in being at the forefront of advancing the healthcare agenda, driving positive change and developments in healthcare policy, practice, research and education.
The Strategic Objectives
To enable the School to move forward the School has adopted the following strategic objectives. The marketing activity will need to contribute to the School's ability to reach these objectives.
1.To integrate Research, Learning & Teaching, Enterprise & Knowledge Transfer and Practice activities within the School and also the wider Faculty
a) To move towards research-led teaching through the integration of key research and L&T activities
b) To establish EKT as a core activity of the School
c) To develop our existing research strengths and to make strategic investment in emerging areas with clear potential
d) To effectively integrate research, scholarship, education and EKT with practice
e) To increase overall effectiveness by developing and enhancing our internal organisational structures and supporting infrastructure, processes and systems
2.To deliver a high quality, research-oriented interdisciplinary portfolio of health and social care education
a) To attract and inspire high quality students; develop them to their full intellectual and professional potential; and enable them to lead and shape future practice
b) To diversify our educational portfolio through the expansion of undergraduate and masters level programmes and the exploitation of new market niches
c) To provide a high quality learning/working environment for the benefit of students and staff
d) To invest in the recruitment of high quality staff as well as the reward, support and development of existing staff to ensure alignment of the staff profile with the strategic aims
3.To raise the School's international profile and standing as an academic centre of excellence, driving positive change in local, national and international health and social care communities
a) To expand international recognition for the School's research and EKT
b) To increase the proportion of high quality staff and post-graduate students from international settings
c) To expand opportunities for academic activities (student and staff exchanges, collaborative research and others) with international partners
d) To ensure that the School's activities are set in the context of both global challenges and funding opportunities in health and social care
