Funding and awards

sCHOOL travel Awards

The School Executive established the School Travel Awards (STA) for students on taught programmes in the School of Healthcare. This is to help them undertake an elective or other visit abroad as part of their programme of study. Such awards may also be awarded to students undertaking other visits abroad which are not part of their programme of study. However this is on an exceptional basis and at the discretion of the STA panel.

These awards are designed to contribute towards the costs of such electives/visits but will not cover all the costs as there is only a limited amount of money available. Previously students have received between £100 and £350.  Applications are made by completing a form similar to the Leeds for Life form and are considered once per semester with submission dates normally in November (round 1) and February (round 2). If there is any money remaining after round 2 then an exceptional third round will be publicised.

Student going on electives or visits up to February apply for round 1 and students going after February apply for round 2. Specific details are published on the VLE normally in September and December each year. In return for receiving the award, students have to complete either a report or a supported presentation or design a poster based on their trip/visit. Additional details are available from the secretary to the International Lead, Mrs Jenny Ogden, by e-mail at J.A.Ogden@leeds.ac.uk.

Sir George Martin Travelling Scholarship (Nursing students only)

The Special Trustees of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust award the Sir George Martin Travelling Scholarship annually. This is for nursing students only. Specific details are published on the VLE normally in December or January each year. Professor Claire Hale is the contact for this, so additional details may be obtained from her by e-mail at c.a.hale@leeds.ac.uk
