FAQs
What is the International Module?
This module is for those of you who wish to undertake a 2 week experience in an international healthcare setting as part of your programme.
Who can take the module?
Currently the module is an optional module available to those students undertaking the BSc Nursing programmes. However it is intended that the module will also become available to other undergraduate programmes in the future.
Where can I go?
You can go to any healthcare setting that your programme considers suitable. Therefore you will need to discuss this with your programme manager or module manager. Please email Peter Inns, p.inns@leeds.ac.uk
Who arranges the placement?
This is done in partnership with yourself and the module manager. You will need to identify where you want to go and a contact person. The module manager will then contact the organisation to ensure that it meets with University requirements and is a suitable placement. It is then up to you to make all the other arrangements. This will include aspects such as flights and accommodation.
Who meets the travel costs?
You will need to meet the travel/air flight costs and living expenses yourself. The school does regularly offer Travel Awards -link- which you may apply for to meet some of your expenses. However be aware that these are unlikely to meet all your outgoings.
What about travel/health insurance?
The University offers a very competitive package of health/travel insurance for those students undertaking a placement aboard. Depending upon where you are going you may also be required to undergo appropriate immunisations.
How is the module assessed?
The assessment for the module is a 2500 word assignment linked to your overseas experience.
Which countries have previous students undertaking this module been to?
Students undertaking this module have been to a range of diverse countries. These in include India, Australia, Seychelles, Ghana and South Africa.
