health Systems Evaluation and Outcome Measurement
The evaluation of health care and evidence based practice forms a centrepiece of national policy initiatives. Central to these endeavours are questions of:
- How and in what context policy programmes and service interventions can be evaluated
- Which outcomes are most appropriate and relevant for which factors as evidence of an intervention's or policy programme's effectiveness and acceptability. This suggests a need for methods of evaluation that can address the health system as a whole and recognise its complex nature.
Research in this area comprises a cross-cutting theme throughout the other research programmes within the School. Current projects are taking place within programmes focussed on
- Traditional, Alternative, and Complementary Medicine
- Public Health and primary care
- Symptom Management and Long-term Conditions
The group has multi-disciplinary collaborators both within and outside the Faculty and externally with colleagues at the Universities of Bristol, Cardiff, Manchester and Salford and internationally with the CAM Whole Systems Research Group with collaborators from Canada, Germany, Norway, the USA and UK.
