My PhD research is looking at how self use of reiki may enhance health literacy.

I first became interested in research whilst undertaking my undergraduate degree in Gender Studies with Sociology and Anthropology.  I went on to obtain a Masters degree in social research and subsequently worked for four years as a Research Assistant in the School of Nursing at the University of Hull.  It was during my time working at the University that I developed a personal interest in Reiki as a complementary therapy.  I trained to Reiki level two and began to incorporate Reiki into my everyday life.

I was awarded a three year full time School of Healthcare scholarship commencing in October 2008 with the remit of exploring the contribution of complementary medicine to population health.  The PhD studentship offered me the perfect opportunity to bridge my academic interests of research with my personal interest in Reiki (and complementary therapy more generally).

Aside from doing reiki in my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, travelling and spending time with family and friends.  I am a big music fan and can often be found having a good jump around at music venues across the north of England!!
