Medicines Management
About Medicines Management research
Our two main research themes arose from team members concerns in their professional practice, going back to the 1990s – notably the quality of patient information about medicines, and the quality of long term prescribing. Ongoing research in both areas has run in parallel with an increasing policy focus – in terms of a partnership approach to medicine taking, and the need to prescribe economically.
All our researchers lecture on these areas in the School and wider Faculty – using our research to illustrate these important areas, notably to nurse and pharmacist independent prescribers and medical students. Medicines are the major form of intervention in most health systems, and our research informs policy and practice in making medicines prescribing and taking, safer and more effective. The medicine labels and leaflets used by all patients in the UK are better as a result of our research – it having fed into policy and practice in a number of ways.
