About Pain Management Research

We have worked together for more than 15 years on research dedicated to improving pain management for people who tend to be overlooked. This began with the study of pain at night in hospital and has since covered areas such as the prevalence, intensity, quality and experience of pain associated with leg ulcers and pressure ulcers, ways of assessing pain for people who have cognitive impairment, the impact of neuropathic pain on everyday life and barriers to the management of cancer pain at home.

Recent work is focused on non-medical prescribing and management for pain and the impact of different faiths on the experience and expression of pain. Our research has been used in practice and policy guidelines nationally in the RCN Clinical Practice Guidelines, NHS Evidence and The NHS Clinical Knowledge Summaries, and internationally by the European Association of Palliative care and the American Geriatrics Society.
