Why did you choose Leeds?
I live in Leeds already and I think it’s a really great city. Leeds University has one of the best schools of Healthcare in England and as such, there are a vast amount of healthcare students such as adult nurses, learning disability nurses, mental health nurses, medical students, audiology students and radiography students.

Why did you choose your course?
I decided I wanted to be a nurse when I was at school and I have always wanted to work with children so I thought I would put them both together and train to be a children’s nurse. I’ve had previous placement experiences working within a hospital setting and enjoyed that. Also, once finishing this course I knew I would have a career set out for me working within a healthcare setting as a nurse, whether this in the community or in a hospital. There is a huge range of job opportunities that you can undertake once trained as a nurse.

What has been the highlight of the course?
I have enjoyed placement so much, it’s very rewarding and eye opening. As you have a range of placement areas such as medical wards, surgical wards, intensive care wards, working within the community as a school nurse, nurse practitioner and Accident and Emergency. You get an overview of each area and gain a vast amount of knowledge and transferable skills that you can take on with you to your next placement. Mentors are very helpful, giving you guidance and support.

Would you recommend it to other people?

I would recommend the course to others. You have to be dedicated and committed to the work and placements and in some aspects, the course is hard work however the course is extremely rewarding and three years just fly by.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
Hopefully I will be able to get a job within Leeds Teaching Hospital on a children’s ward to start off with to gain more knowledge and experience because as a nurse you are always learning new things.
