Diagnostic Imaging

What is Diagnostic Imaging?

Diagnostic Imaging (Radiography) is a fast-moving and continually changing profession. Radiographers use a range of different imaging techniques and sophisticated technology to produce high quality images to aid diagnosis for injury or disease. They are professionals allied to medicine who work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Healthcare setting. The career structure provides opportunities for radiographers to specialise into many areas including ultrasound, CT scanning, image reporting, teaching and management.

Why study Diagnostic Imaging?

The three year full-time undergraduate programme offers a first rate learning experience to school leavers and those with a scientific background who wish to become State Registered Diagnostic Radiographers. Lecturer Practitioners are assigned to each main hospital site to facilitate the students' clinical experience and maintain links between the hospital and the University. We have also developed links with universities in Denmark and Sweden. This has provided opportunities to arrange short work placements to gain an insight to radiography in these countries.
