Our degree courses are different to most within higher education; they give students an opportunity to directly contribute to the health and social wellbeing of our society. Our graduates will have the responsibilty for the lives of individuals and families on a local, national and often international level.

We educate students on a range of Honours degree programmes with associated professional qualifications. These include Adult Nursing, Audiology, Child Nursing, Clinical Physiology (Cardiology),  Midwifery, Mental Health, Radiography and Social Work. All courses combine theory with assessed periods of practice, with involvement of service users and carers and leading researchers in the field of healthcare.

Life-changing undergraduate programmes 

We educate professionals who have responsibility for individuals and families from 'cradle to grave'; from a midwife helping a mother to give birth safely, to a nurse and social worker providing home care in the last few months of a person's life. Our students make a difference, what they do changes lives.

 

Innovative and relevant

Our courses will give you the skills to meet the challenges of 21st century healthvare. We regularly review their content and we are currently in the process of redesigning and revalidating our adult and child nursing programmes. This is a process that we undertake at least every five years and means the programmes you study at Leeds are up to date and meet the changing and diverse care needs of the population.

Excellent career prospects
The Guardian League tables show School of Healthcare employment prospects rated at 97% having a job after six months Most students find work in the National Health Service or with Social and Welfare Services and some also gain employment abroad where British qualifications are considered a 'gold standard' of education. We have a good study abroad programme for those students want an international healthcare study experience.

 

Fully-funded courses, no fees 

Financial support for the majority of students is by a means-tested bursary, but some students, on designated programmes, receive a salary while they learn as they work. Typically, this is in a local healthcare setting.

 

Professional qualifications

On qualification students gain their Honours degree and a professional qualification which is a licence to practise. Our students are critical thinkers able to interpret research and best evidence about professional practice and apply this to the people and situations they meet.
