BA (Hons) Social Work - BA-SOCWK-08
The course offers an opportunity to achieve a degree and a professional qualification in social work. Students will be required to undertake 200 days of direct placement supported by practice teachers and assessors.
Programme Content:
The programme is designed to provide you with theskills and knowledge necessary to work as a socialworker. On completion of the programme you will be able to work in a variety of social work settings. You will develop the reflective and analytical skills needed to become a competent social worker.
In your first and second years you will consider Psychological, Sociological and Social Policy Perspectives on social work practice. You will learn about the legal basis of social work. You will demonstrate your competence in IT. You will examine the impact of Disability and Mental Health on Social Service Users. In these two years you will complete two social work placements. In your third year you will study both child and family & adult social work. You will complete your course by doing a final placement in a social work setting.

Entry Requirements:
- 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above to include maths and English.
PLUS
- 3 A levels grades BBB
OR
- QCF BTEC Extended Diploma Distinction/Distinction/Distinction
OR
- Access to Higher Education course in Social Science with a minimum of 45 level 3 credits at passed at Distinction. 5 GCSE’s at grade C or above to include maths and English.
Other qualifications commensurate with the above will be advised on an individual basis.
Social Work Bursary:
The social work bursary is available to students ordinarily resident in England and Wales studying on an approved undergraduate course, or an approved postgraduate course. Amongst other eligibility criteria, students must also meet certain residency criteria. The social work bursary is non-income-assessed, which means that earnings, savings and other sources of income, such as local authority (LA) funding, are not taken into consideration. It includes a basic grant that varies in value, a contribution towards practice learning opportunity-related expenses and tuition fees up to a capped amount.
